During the COVID-19 pandemic the Arizona Department of Health worked with health systems throughout their state to create the Arizona Surge Line, designed to avoid overwhelming hospitals with infected patients. Powered by the ABOUT solution, the Arizona Surge Line has become a model for large-scale responses to healthcare emergencies.
Gartner studied the impact of the surge line and released their findings in a January 2022 case study.
“The Arizona Surge Line optimizes the transfer of COVID-19 patients between healthcare provider facilities to load-balance statewide bed capacity. Healthcare provider CIOs should apply the surge line operational and technology approach to future public health emergencies.”
